Cornerstone
Cornerstone is an art gallery interior located in Taichung, Taiwan, with an area of 36 square meters. The main finish is a traditional clay plaster made of red clay, rice straw and glutinous rice, which helps regulate indoor humidity and temperature. A curved red clay wall guides visitors through the space. A circular aperture of 75 centimeters in diameter was cut into the floor slab above and fitted with a conical steel fixture to bring daylight deep into the interior. Patinated steel shelves are adjustable and removable for changing exhibitions.
Cornerstone Gallery by Yu-Ting Chen was highlighted as an outstanding illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Cornerstone Gallery was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2026. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design accolade which celebrates excellent design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
