Kunming Wangfujing
Kunming Wangfujing is a shopping mall interior covering 1900 square metres in Kunming, China. The design applies the tie-dye craft of the Bai people to a modern commercial space. Blue and white patterns are made with hand-tied knots and natural plant dyes, so each fabric piece is unique. Pure cotton and linen materials are selected for comfort and sustainability. The layout arranges stores and rest areas for smooth movement, while plants and seating create a calm atmosphere. The intent is to link local cultural heritage with contemporary retail.
Kunming Wangfujing Shopping Mall by Yeenian Yao was identified as an outstanding illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Kunming Wangfujing Shopping Mall earned the Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2025. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition which honors superior design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
