Flourishing Grandbuy
Flourishing Grandbuy is the renovation of a department store on a well known pedestrian street in Guangzhou, China. The store consists of two buildings constructed at different times, which caused a spatial misalignment and a divided shopping route. The renovation introduces a central axis and a core atrium, new escalators and a sightseeing elevator, and a redesigned east entrance clad in light aluminium panels cast in the shape of local roof tiles and lit by colour LED units. The result connects the two buildings into one clear and accessible route.
Flourishing Grandbuy Renovation of a Department Store by Hu Chen was highlighted as an innovative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition.
