Tea and Zen
Tea and Zen is a teahouse located in an old street near Beijing Road Pedestrian Street in Guangzhou. The building is 4.3 meters wide, 20 meters long and three and a half stories high. A facade of red volcanic rock faces the street with a calm and modest presence. A rectangular patio and atrium are placed at one third of the plan, with passageways on both sides, so the narrow space flows and receives daylight, air and rain. Materials include volcanic rock, sensitive flooring, resistant paint and wood veneer. The design brings a natural and quiet atmosphere into the city.
Tea and Zen Teahouse by Qiang Wang has been recognized as a creative example of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Tea and Zen Teahouse received the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2022. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition that rewards outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
